Web Connect Implementation Steps
1. Install the Intuit client software and special testing files in your development environment.
Current release versions of Intuit client software are necessary for full development and testing, and are available for download. There is a limit to the number of downloaded copies available based on your specific contractual agreement with Intuit:
Quicken software
QuickBooks software

Client software by default "points" to our production environment. Instructions for "pointing" your client software to our test branding environment are available at Client Test Files.

Important: QuickBooks does not allow Direct Connect and Web Connect to be active within the same presence, if an FI wants to support both download features, then the FI will need to have two separate presences set up on Intuit's Branding Server.

Your development and test team may not be familiar with the user functionality available within the Intuit clients. Information about training for the Quicken and QuickBooks products is available at Training Information.
2. Code and test your web site and OFX download functionality.

  1. Review the Web Connect Technical Specification Guide. All versions of Quicken and QuickBooks which support Web Connect are coded to work with OFX version 1.0.2. OFX 2.0 is not officially supported and is not recommended for use with Web Connect implementations.

  2. Review the Data Mapping Guide. Quicken and QuickBooks in-product Help can answer most client functionality questions. Intuit Online Support has answers to thousands of questions and are continually being updated:
    Quicken Support
    QuickBooks Support

  3. Incorporate the "Download to Quicken" and/or "Download to QuickBooks" button(s) into your web site.
    Download to Quicken
    Download to QuickBooks

  4. Incorporate your Intuit BID number into your OFX download files.

  5. Use the OFX Viewer tool to ensure that your OFX download files are fully compliant with the OFX specification

  6. OFX Formatter tool reads in an OFX file (including an ofxlog.txt file) and adds carriage returns, line feeds and tabs to make it more readable.

  7. Reference sample web connect files for assistance in data mapping.

  8. To test the validity of your OFX implementation and to assist you in planning for Intuit FIAT testing, use the FIAT Web Connect Test Plan. This document should be used as a guide throughout server development to better understand the customer experience when using Intuit products.

Note: Intuit strongly discourages the use of Social Security numbers for any account related values. These may include, but are not limited to: Customer ID, Account Number, PIN, Password, or Challenge Phrase.

Once Social Security number is used for an account related value and customers have established their online account within Quicken or QuickBooks, customer action will be required to change from their Social Security number to a new value.
